Landsailing Areas |

Landsailing
in Colorado presents some interesting challenges, as there are no large
dry lakes or wide beaches to sail. Most sailing is done on parking
lots, hoping not to get booted off by a security guard! The wind
also tends to come and go, so sailing is a very oppurtunistic adventure.
The state of Wyoming has lots of wind. West of Rawlins there are several dry lakes, two of which we have sailed. The first one is close to Wamsutter. Unnamed on the map, we nicknamed it "Wahu". It has a fast surface, with a scattering of vegetation. The small bushes add a new dimension to sailing. You weave your way through them, and then come into large open areas that were not initially visible. Take a look at the pictures below. There are a couple more possible sites in the same general area. We will keep looking! If anyone knows of a spot, e-mail me and we'll check it out. |
